Return to My Roots
I am currently visiting Lake Tahoe for the sixth time, marking 11 years since my last visit to my favorite U.S. destination. My first trip here in 1998 was a final "hurrah" before starting my PhD at URI, and I returned in 2003 to celebrate its completion.
Reflecting on these milestones has brought me to my most recent life-changing decision: declaring my candidacy for the Smithfield Town Council. It was not an easy choice, but it is one rooted in the same values that have defined my 46-year career.
While many know me as an academic, my background includes 14 years in business as well as extensive executive coaching and consulting experience. However, teaching has been the pinnacle of my career.
The Purpose
My goal has always been to change lives—not just academically, but personally. I am constantly humbled by the messages I receive from former students who have achieved great success as executives and leaders at major companies. Hearing about the impact I’ve had on their lives and families is what truly warms my heart.
My decision to run for Town Council is a continuation of this mindset. It aligns with my experience:
- Member of several Smithfield Boards and Commissions over more than a decade,
- Teaching faith formation at St. Philip’s Church, and
- Educating and mentoring thousands of students.
My parents taught me the importance of gratitude and giving back, and my time at Bryant University has shown me just how fulfilling those connections can be.
Ultimately, my campaign and my career are not about titles. They are about leaving the people I connect with better than they were before.
Now, to build and develop Smithfield using the same approach and principles.
