Making a Meal with Several Hands in the Pot — A Refreshing Part 2

Complicated situations can often generate opinions and thoughts from various people and constituencies. And the depth and variation of these thoughts can develop a life of its own. Often, with emotions, strategies, personal objectives, and perspectives.

What Now?

I decided to postpone the second post.  However, this experience has created some thinking on my part.  Now for that thinking:

Ultimately, there are few behaviors that are needed, or increased, in Smithfield.

  • Fiscal Discipline: Only spend money that you have to spend.  Fiscal strength is a superpower.
  • The Real Work: While being available in public is a great community builder, leadership is more than ribbon cutting and walking around at public events.  The real work of leaders is in the "details".
  • Focus on ALL Solutions: Clean up your own house before you criticize others.
  • Leadership Discipline: Refrain from rhetoric.  Focus on facts and objective data.  Many leaders seem to be fearful of objective data.  Why?
  • Teamwork: Get along for the better good of Smithfield ... its residents, businesses, families and children.

I appreciate those people that read my posts.  Civil discussion is important in our society and the Town.
