GIS Maps, Property Lines & Tax Assessments

Town Council Meeting -- October 19, 2021

Agenda item VIII(B): Conduct a public hearing to consider amending the Zoning Ordinance Map by changing the zoning district designation of Assessor’s Plat 47, Lot 34, located IX. X. XI. XII. at 115 Mann School Road, from R-80 to R-Med.

Interesting discussion from the abutting neighbor for this request.  The taxpayer was questioning the process.

The following statements were made (29:55 -- 31:23):

"Common to have discrepencies in property boundaries.  We find it all over the place throughout Town where whole blocks are shifted either north or south so they do not line up to the actual with what we know to be the ground truth."

"There are not GIS referenced.   Although there is not a disclaimer on our ad, we have a discclaimer on our GIS that it is not a survey.  It's not to be used for that purpose.  It's for tax assessing purposes."

"The GIS in terms of the lines that it draws from the sattelite is not exactly 100%."

"No, it is not even close."
